Portland startup Reperio Health has refined its target market and raised a $6 million seed round to get its product in the hands of employers and other organizations that are interested in proactive wellness.

Reperio is the latest company from Travis Rush and Matt Wallington. Rush previously founded the contact lens subscription and concierge service Sightbox and Wallington was chief technology officer. Reperio is a health testing and management company that aims to make it easier for people to monitor their health before a major medical condition develops.

Since starting the business last year, the two have focused the target market to employers who want to offer or already offer wellness programs to employees. In addition to employers, the startup sells to health plans, retirement facilities and any other organizations or individuals interested in collecting and monitoring health data.

“Nearly nine out of 10 large employers currently offer some sort of workplace wellness program, which equates to roughly 63 million people in the U.S. alone,” said Rush, who is CEO, in a written statement. “Unfortunately, the typical process for health screenings is time-consuming and inconvenient, so many people procrastinate and put these off for years. Reperio is making it easy by bringing health screenings right to peoples’ door.”

The company sends customers a kit of FDA-approved sensors, such as heart monitor or blood pressure cuff, that are Bluetooth-enabled and connect to Reperio’s app. The proprietary app walks people through the testing and collects data from the device. The app then gives consumers results and can alert people to results that are out of healthy ranges.

The results are kept in a HIPAA-compliant cloud service and can be tracked over time. The information can be used in discussions with a consumer’s health care provider.

This round of funding was co-led by Nashville-based Caduceus Capital Partners and Lake Oswego’s Rogue Venture Partners. The round also included San Francisco-based investors G Ventures and Liquid 2 Ventures, which is led by former NFL quarterback Joe Montana.

Reperio, which has a team of 10, is hiring. The company is looking for a chief customer experience officer and senior mobile engineer, according to its web site.
