Steven Packer, M.D., is an accomplished healthcare CEO, corporate and non-profit board member, and community volunteer with deep experience helping organizations grow and scale. Dr. Packer recently retired from his position as president and CEO of Montage Health and its related corporations, where he led a 3,000-person integrated regional healthcare system with more than $1.1 billion in annual net revenue. He served as president and CEO of Montage Health for more than 25 years, guiding the organization from a single hospital location to an integrated, county-wide delivery system that includes Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, outpatient facilities, urgent care centers, a multispecialty medical group, satellite laboratories, mental health services, a short-term skilled nursing facility, integrated medical wellness centers, and Hospice of the Central Coast.

Dr. Packer’s commitment and experience in building strong teams is evidenced in his development and support of public-private partnerships focusing on workforce development, teambuilding, and attraction and retention of talent.

Prior to his President and CEO role, Dr. Packer served as Chief of Staff at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula from 1997-1999 and was Medical Director of Community Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. He was also a partner in Cardiopulmonary Associates of the Monterey Peninsula, a private practice medical specialty group.

Dr. Packer spent three years in postgraduate training in internal medicine at UCSF, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at U.C. Irvine Medical Center. He is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program and a Distinguished Fellow of California State University, Monterey Bay.
